Heilstollen (healing adit) & thermal baths in Gastein

Wellness & health on holiday in the mountains

The Gastein Valley was quite rightly given the name the Valley of Health , as hardly any other region in the Alps has as much to offer for a healthy holiday in Austria. Besides the untouched nature in the Hohe Tauern national park, where you can pursue numerous activities in both the summer and winter, such as skiing in the Gasteinertal region, hiking, cross-country skiing, or golfing, the Gastein Valley has no less than two thermal springs and the Heilstollen healing cave with naturally occurring radon.

The Heilstollen Gastein

The Heilstollen Gastein is a natural 2,500 metre long cave with naturally occurring radon in Bad Gastein. Therapy in the Heilstollen Gastein focuses on pain relief, regeneration and relaxation. Thanks to the high humidity, warmth and naturally occurring radon, it relieves pain and can lead to a long-term reduction in medication for up to a year and stabilisation of the immune system. Inflammatory rheumatic muscoloskeletal and respiratory problems as well as skin problems can be treated in the radon cave in Bad Gastein.

Introductory session in the Gastein Heilstollen every Tuesday & Thursday
Gastein Heilstollen offers an introductory session in the Gastein Heilstollen. The roughly 2 ½ hour introductory session programme includes a medical check (cardiovascular and blood pressure check), a short informative film about the Heilstollen therapy’s natural scope of activity with train ride into the therapy area afterwards where you stay for 30 minutes.

Gasteiner vapour

The Gastein radon thermal vapour bath is a public spa facilitiy with medical supervision. The radon thermal vapour bath situated in the town centre is located directly above the Elisabeth spring tunnel. The thermal spring vapour is fed into the box baths via a shaft system. Due to the fact that you do not stay in there for long and the body is warmed up mildly, this “cave light” is particularly suitable for people who have a limited tolerance to stress.

An adventure pool for the whole family awaits you in the sunniest part of the Gastein Valley. The outdoor pool in Dorfgastein has something on offer for every taste: besides an exercise pool, sports pool and warm water pool, the children’s pool with small slide and giant slide in particular provide lots of fun.
